Oxford Square Residence
Los Angeles, California
located within the Oxford Square Historic Preservation Overlay Zone
Scope of Services: Historic Preservation, Architectural Design, Permitting and Construction Administration
The clients purchased a 1920s Spanish-ish home in the Oxford Square neighborhood in central Los Angeles. They were attracted to the large backyard and the possibilities for a outdoor entertaining. Their previous home, also in Los Angeles, had abundant natural light, but this house was relatively dark. The original kitchen was tucked in the corner and woefully outdated. Our intervention was to add two large skylights over the dining room and to move the kitchen to the back center of the house. A long spine of custom maple cabinetry runs through and unifies the spaces. The kitchen connects seamlessly to the back patio through large sliding doors. The existing bedrooms and bathrooms were enlarged and modernized with contemporary details.
